When I am felting, I find my sense of balance; it's a very tactile, meditative process.

I rely on simple tools and materials: my hands, soap, water and fibers. There is a magic in the transformation of fibers into felt... I work primarily with wool, silk and plant fibers using the traditional wet felting technique.

Rather than planning my compositions, I begin with a visual memory as inspiration. I abstract that memory into a design that evolves as I layer, blend and juxtapose colors.
The flexibility of the medium invites me to experiment; it feeds my curious nature. Feltmaking is an intuitive process, but I must be satisfied with the aesthetic and technical elements in my work, or I cannot consider it a finished piece.

My goal as a feltmaker has been primarily focused on creating aesthetically beautiful, functional, high quality pieces.

Making wearables is second nature to me, but the medium of felt expands the potential for exploration in every direction. My mother was an artist and an expert seamstress. She taught me to respect the need to create something uncommon, and the skill to challenge that need.

My work is evolving; I am contemplating the possibilities for creating three-dimensional, sculptural forms with felt. The process of making felt is full of surprises; it reminds me to enjoy the unexpected... the unanticipated things that occur.

I can attempt to facilitate the unexpected, or I can allow it to happen by chance... It is this unknown that ignites my inspiration and has me eager to start my next venture.
